How Tight Should My Dogs Collar Be?

I am always amazed at how loose the average dog collar is on a dog. Now I am talking about the leather or fabric collar that dog owners put on their dogs and then attach their tags to. I have seen so many dogs being walked where the collars actually comes right off over the head. Dog owners pay attention that means it is too loose and your dog is in DANGER Dog Bark Collar with 7 Sensitivity USB Rechargeable Waterproof with Beep B07SJZ31ZJ.

Why is your dog in danger? That’s an easy answer because now with the collar off your dog can run off and right into the street. Yep, you know what happens when a dog runs into the street and meets a 2 ton vehicle head on. I don’t think I really need to paint that picture for you.

So how tight should the collar be you ask? That’s simple. It should be tight enough so that you cannot pull it over the head and yet you can still put 2 fingers between the collar and the neck.

Having a well fitted collar is important for your dog’s well-being and choosing the correct collar is important as well. A lot of dog owner buy the adjustable type collar that you adjust to fit your dog as it grows. Those collars might be okay for a puppy however when your dog has finished growing invest in a regular buckle type collar that fits your dog well.

Why get rid of the adjustable collar you ask? Good question. Because they start to stretch and keep getting looser even after you readjust them. That is why I really like the buckle type collar, you are able to fit it properly to your dog and it stays there no stretching.

Buckle collars do come in different qualities. I prefer either a nice leather collar or a heavy weight nylon collar. Either will work. I stay away from the thin cheapo collars that could possibly break and allow my dog to get away. I would rather be safe that sorry.

So you can see that having the correct collar that your dog cannot escape from could be can be a lifesaver. So run down to your local pet store and invest in a collar that will keep your pet safe and healthy for a long time in the future.
